Private jet charter to Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is the epitome of the sun, sea and sand way of life. People come for the 300 days of sunshine, the 30 or so miles of beaches and the world-famous surf breaks. Ever-growing suburbs have skylines full of sky-scraping towers that resemble Miami; shopping malls, theme parks, restaurants and bars keep visitors entertained, fed and watered until the early hours; and the waves are dotted with surfers from dawn until dusk. But that’s not the whole story – there’s also the ‘green behind the gold’: the Gold Coast’s forest-clad Hinterland, where it’s more bushtucker than fine dining.

Big, bold and bright but gritty in places, Surfers Paradise is the top Gold Coast stop on the East Coast touring route. The main attraction here is the beach where revellers resting from the night before mix with families and, as the name would suggest, surfers waiting for that perfect wave. The sand is backed by high-rise glittering apartment blocks, housing those who have escaped the rat race in Melbourne and Sydney and the hundreds of thousands of people who visit each year. Down at street level, there are more than enough restaurants, bars and clubs for the apres-surf crowd to descend on.

Busy and bustling Surfers is not for everyone. Luckily, with mile upon mile of coastline, you don’t need to confine yourself to just the commercial and entertainment heart of the Gold Coast. Travel south for five minutes (40 minutes on foot) and you’ll reach Broadbeach. The beach here has a similar Miami-esque backdrop but it’s a little bit quieter than Surfers. Come here for the shopping as well – the Pacific Fair centre features around 400 retail and dining spots.

If it’s upmarket with a side of nature that you’re looking for, try Burleigh Heads. Here, it’s all boutiques, chic restaurants and crafty shops in the centre of town, fantastic breaks out on the water and natural beauty in the nearby parks. Take some time to enjoy the trails and spectacular views back up along the coast from Burleigh Head National Park and wander around the Tallebudgera Creek Conservation Park with its dense mangroves and calming creekside paths.

After a bit of a breather in beautiful Burleigh on your journey south along the Gold Coast, you’ll reach the southern-most suburb of Coolangatta; any further and you’re in New South Wales. ‘Cooly’ is all about the Duranbah surf break here: this is a serious playground for the world’s best surfers. There’s also much less of a touristy feel to the place than in spots further north; it’s not exactly a hidden gem but it’s just off the well-trodden path. The land-based vibe definitely puts the cool into Coolangatta.

Step back from the beautiful beaches and you’ll be in the breathtaking Hinterland where mountains are shrouded in ancient rainforests. Aside from spotting groups of celebrities stranded in the name of entertainment, you can explore the natural wonders of the McPherson Range on foot, discover charming mountain villages and learn about the indigenous Yugambeh people. Don’t miss a trip to Lamington National Park with its UNESCO-listed Gondwana rainforest covering, awesome waterfalls and Coomera Valley vistas from its hundred miles of hiking trails.

If you’re going to name a suburb Surfers Paradise, there got to be a reason. There are actually many: the waves are consistent, the water is warm and clear throughout the year, the point breaks are world-class and there are plenty of places with good beach breaks for beginners. The pros head to Burleigh Heads and the Superbank off the coast in Coolangatta. Head here in the Southern Hemisphere’s autumn and you’ll see the world’s best compete in the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.

If you’re not on the Gold Coast for the surf or nightlife, there’s a high chance the region’s theme parks are why you are here, especially if you’re travelling with your family. There’s the extensive Dreamworld is home to a host of thrill rides including the world’s tallest and fastest – Tower of Terror 2; the Warner Brothers Movie World where you can meet some of your favourite characters from both the small and big screen; and Wet n Wild Water World, arguably the best waterpark in the country. You can even get a taste of the outback at Paradise Country where they showcase many of the traditions of rural Australia.

The region is served by the Gold Coast airport which is located just to the north of Coolangatta, and Brisbane airport that’s an hour along the coast from Southport, the northern-most part of the Gold Coast.
