Award-winning aircraft charter specialist, Air Charter Service, recently received an enquiry to move three fire trucks from Turkey to Iraq. The obvious choice to move the vehicles was an Antonov 124, but ACS suggested that the client designed special ramps to allow the trucks to be loaded onto two IL-76s, saving the customer a great deal.

Justin Lancaster, Air Charter Service’s Commercial Director, commented: “The trucks are for the Iraqi government. We worked extremely closely with our customer and the operator over the course of more than a month, to design the ramps.

“As you can see from the photos, the trucks are huge and weighed over twenty tons each. They originally came from the US and were then flown from Turkey into Iraq. The ramp was dismantled and flew with the aircraft in order to offload the trucks the other end.

“We always try to think outside the box and are extremely pleased that we were able to save the customer so much money. This sort of charter really tests us, but they are the most satisfying and enjoyable to work on and to see the trucks roll on and off the aircraft reminds us why we love to do this job.”
