Festa Veneziana, the Grand Opening of the 2018 Venice Carnival

Date: Saturday, January 27th at 6:00pm with an encore at 8:00pm

Location: Canale di Cannaregio

Tickets: Free. No tickets required.

Officially opening Carnival, the Festa Veneziana show combines music, lights, drama and dance along the banks of the Cannaregio. There are no tickets, so arrive early to claim a good viewpoint.

Festa Veneziana Part II

Date: Sunday, January 28th at 6:00pm with an encore at 8:00pm

Location: Canale di Cannaregio

Tickets: Free. No tickets required.

On the Sunday following the Grand Opening, a water parade of unique boats sails down the Canal Grande towards the district of Cannaregio. Along the route, music is played and Venetian food and wines are served.

Volo dell’Angelo

Date: Sunday, February 4th at 12:00pm

Location: St. Mark’s Square

Tickets: Free. No tickets required.

Vollo dell’Angelo or ‘Flight of the Angel’ dates back to the Serenissima period. When the clock strikes 12:00pm, an acrobat jumps off the San Marco bell tower and flies along a zipline to the middle of St. Mark’s Square. Be sure to arrive at 11:00am to secure a spot.

Ballo Tiepolo Masquerade Ball

Date: Thursday, February 4th at 8:00pm

Location: Palazzo Pisani Moretta

Tickets: Tickets cost €700 in the Central Hall and €570 in the Side Hall, and are available here.

The glamorous Ballo Tiepolo transports you to 18th-century Venice. This elaborate masquerade ball takes place at the Palazzo Pisani Moretta, where guests are treated to cocktails and a candlelit dinner with performances from singers, dancers and an orchestra. The real party starts after dinner, when dance maestros teach basic dance steps from the 18th and 19th centuries. All attendees must wear period costumes.

Il Ballo del Doge Masquerade Ball

Date: Saturday, February 10th at 8:30pm

Location: Palazzo Pisani Moretta

Tickets: Tickets range in price from €700 to €2,700, and are available here.

The most exclusive ball at the Venice Carnival, Il Ballo del Doge is the ticket to get. Held at the historic Palazzo Pisani Moretta, the ball has been described by Vanity Fair as “one of the most exclusive parties in the world.” Organized by Antonia Sautter, a renowned costume designer – whose pieces feature in the film Eyes Wide Shut – the event features a gourmet dinner, performances and dancing. Period costume is required.
